Getting Started

What is football squares?

Football squares is a fun prediction game played on a 10x10 grid. Each square represents a possible score combination between two teams. Players claim squares before the game, numbers are randomly assigned, and winners are determined by the last digit of each team's score at the end of each quarter.

How do I create a game?

Click "Create New Game" on the homepage, enter the two team names, set an admin password, and you're done! You'll get a unique link to share with your group.

Is this free to use?

Yes! FootballSquaresGame.com is completely free. Create unlimited games, invite unlimited players, and enjoy all features at no cost.

Do players need to create an account?

No accounts needed! Players simply click the game link, enter their name, and start claiming squares. It's designed to be as simple as possible.

Playing the Game

How do I claim a square?

Click any empty square on the grid, enter your name (or select it if you've claimed before), and click "Claim Square." Your name will appear in that square.

Can I claim multiple squares?

Yes! You can claim as many squares as you'd like (or as many as the game admin allows). Just click each square you want.

What if I claim the wrong square?

If the game admin has enabled it, you can click your square again to release it. Otherwise, contact the game admin to make changes.

When are numbers assigned?

The game admin assigns numbers after all squares are claimed (or whenever they choose). Numbers are randomly generated to ensure fairness. Until numbers are assigned, every square has equal odds.

How are winners determined?

At the end of each quarter, take the last digit of each team's score. Find the square where those two numbers intersect—that's the winner! For example, if the score is Chiefs 17, Eagles 14, the winning square is where row 7 meets column 4.

Game Administration

What can an admin do?

Admins can edit any square, enter scores, assign random numbers, lock the grid, customize team colors, add a custom message, and manage game settings.

How do I log in as admin?

Click the "Admin Login" button on your game page and enter the admin password you set when creating the game.

Can I password-protect my game?

Yes! When creating a game, you can set an optional player password. Only people with the password can claim squares.

What does locking the grid do?

Locking prevents any new squares from being claimed or released. This is useful after numbers are assigned or once the game starts.

I forgot my admin password. What do I do?

Unfortunately, for security reasons, we cannot recover admin passwords. Make sure to save your password somewhere safe when creating a game.

Live Scores

How does automatic score tracking work?

When creating a game, you can link it to an NFL or college football game. Scores will automatically update during the game—no manual entry needed!

How often do scores update?

Scores refresh approximately every 60 seconds while you're viewing the game page. You'll always see the most recent scores.

Can I use this for games not listed?

Absolutely! Choose "Manual Entry" when creating your game and enter scores yourself. This works for any sport, any league, or even non-sports events.

Technical Questions

Does this work on mobile?

Yes! The site is fully responsive and works great on phones, tablets, and computers. Players can claim squares right from their mobile devices.

Can I print the grid?

Yes! Click the "Print" button to generate a printer-friendly version of your grid. It's formatted to fit on one page.

How long are games saved?

Games are saved indefinitely. You can always access your game using the same link or game code.

Is my data secure?

We take security seriously. All connections are encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are securely hashed, and we never share your data with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Strategy & Tips

Are some numbers better than others?

Historically, some digit combinations appear more often due to football's scoring (touchdowns = 6/7 points, field goals = 3 points). Numbers like 0, 7, 3, and 4 tend to be favorable, while 2, 5, 8, and 9 are less common. However, since numbers are randomly assigned after squares are claimed, every square has equal odds when you pick it!

Does it matter which square I pick?

Before numbers are assigned, every square has exactly the same odds. Pick your favorite spot, lucky corner, or just grab what's available—it's all equal until the random numbers are generated.
